“The push to reopen schools is rooted in sexism, racism, and misogyny,” tweeted the Chicago Teachers Union account on Sunday. This was an odd dispatch and as soon as the replies came in? The tweet vanished. It’s funny how that works, isn’t it? Teachers’ unions have been pushing back against any reopening since the pandemic began.
Chicago is not an exception in this instance. Their union represents nearly 30,000 teachers in one of the largest cities in the nation. When they speak, people listen. The replies to the post were interesting to see, as well. Their timeline is filled with all sorts of grievances. However, this tweet arrived with zero explanation.
This confused many observers. The idea that school re-openings could be racist in any way was surprising. We would love to see whoever was responsible for the tweet try to explain it. There is no way that they would be able to. Yes, the pandemic has hit minority communities hard but guess what?
Minority parents are at the forefront of the push to open schools. If children are forced to stay home for a year, the damage that is going to be done to their development will be hard to quantify. It may take us years to unpack it all. If a mother has to work full time, how is she supposed to bring home a paycheck and make sure that her little ones are still receiving a proper education?
This is the question that a lot of communities are currently grappling with. Instead of providing real solutions, the teachers’ union is looking to have a woke off. The demands that parents are making have nothing to do with racism or sexism. They simply want to make sure that their kids are getting the best of the best.
That’s any parent’s instinct and anyone who pretends otherwise is drinking the liberal Kool-Aid. “Then why are minority parents suing in California saying virtual learning has left their children behind? You say you care about your students, but you clearly don’t,” said Curtis Houck when a similar situation arose in the state of California.
Parents are finally realizing the level of power that they wield when it comes to their local government. They can put the squeeze on these groups in a way that few others can. Teachers are going to be paid whether they teach online or in an in-class setting. The other workers who still have to show up for their essential employment do get the luxury of acting like this either.
Other school systems are taking precautions but Chicago refuses to do so. “Medical experts like Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Robert Redfield and Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci argue that in-person instruction can continue as long as it follows the science and is done in a safe way,” according to a Fox News report. “We’re not seeing intra-school transmission,” Redfield continued.
“I just think it’s healthy for these kids to be in school,” Redfield concluded. “That said, they got to do it safely and they’ve got to do it responsibly. And when this was started over the summer, no one really knew for certain. They thought that these public health measures would work. But now the data clearly shows us that you can operate these schools in face-to-face learning in a safe and responsible way.”
The liberals claim that they are following scientists but of course, they do not want to follow THESE scientists. Dr. Fauci is their go-to guy until he says something that they do not agree with. Then, they pivot to calling everyone a racist for disagreeing with them. “The default position should be to try as best as possible, within reason, to keep the children in school, to get them back to school,” Fauci told ABC News reporter Martha Raddatz. Watch them ignore him when it is convenient, though.
