American Urban Radio Networks White House correspondent and CNN analyst April Ryan is taking a hard-line stance on the current nonsense that is taking place. Someone is responsible for taping a meeting that took place between Joe Biden and various civil rights leaders. Of course, this tape was immediately leaked to the press.
Ryan wants this person to be held responsible for what they did. That should not be a huge issue but of course, the liberals are making it one. The same problems that they complained about when Trump was the one in their crosshairs are not problems anymore. It’s easy to see why leftists are divided on this one.
On one hand, Biden seems to have a sensible approach to the conversation about defunding the police. Conservative viewers were probably less worried than liberal ones. The liberals who thought that Biden was going to strip the police of all funding once he was officially sworn on are probably wondering why they have been abandoned.
Biden’s concerns were definitely politically motivated, though, let’s be very clear on that. His primary worry was that the message was allowing GOP candidates to “beat the living hell out of us” in down-ballot races. This is a legitimate concern but it’s not the most altruistic. He is right about one aspect, however.
Republicans were able to flip seats in the House and they also had the chance to increase their numbers in state and local offices. Americans were told to expect a powerful blue wave in the November election and this did not happen. Biden is right to wonder whether this messaging did anything to hurt their chances.
The GOP used the anti-police messaging to scare voters that are not ready for a commitment like that. So what’s the problem with the leak? It goes against the narrative that the Democrats are walking hand in hand with the Black Lives Matter leadership. The Democrats may have been willing to co-opt the slogan but they are not about to take the decisive actions that these groups demand.
Some Black Lives Matter members will even claim that they want to do away with police forces altogether. They also want to abolish ICE and it is easy to see why this terrifies so many hard-working Americans. No one wants to believe that they could lose everything that they are working for because of one election that does not go their way.
Biden is now going to face the exact problem that we predicted months ago. The progressives that he courted during the campaigning process are going to want results. They are already displeased with the choices that he is making for his cabinet. What is going to happen when they are forced to confront the existence of his newly assembled team, one that does not include any of their chosen cronies?
That’s why the far left carping was so easy to predict. The “we will vote him and then push him left” crowd is going to rue the day that they put their support behind Biden. This was never going to happen and now that they are receiving confirmation of that? Things are sure to get ugly. April Ryan’s goal to shield Biden from criticism and nothing more.
When Trump’s administration resembled Swiss cheese from a leak standpoint, no one was very worried about democracy. As soon as Biden looks bad, they are the first ones to cry. “I asked an incoming White House source was the meeting contentious with civil rights leader and @JoeBiden and the answer was ‘no’. A rights leader at the meeting says @JoeBiden was passionate,” Ryan tweeted. “The question is who taped this meeting and why? What is the agenda?”
Vice journalist Edward Ongweso Jr. had a beautiful response but she did not understand the sarcasm. “It is irresponsible and sets a dangerous precedent for journalists covering the incoming administration to be able to use secretly recorded conversations in their stories,” Ongweso Jr. said. “To parse out Biden’s thoughts and anticipate his policy commitments, you must go through proper channels.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Ryan needs to get her head in the game.
